I have been a designer for 23 yrs. I started doing high end residential out of college in Long Beach, CA. In this position I designed custom furniture as well as spaces. Our projects were also included golf course bungalow, small suite hotels and a few wine bars. Then I went into restaurant design and worked for a large chain in the US. My responsibilities were to remodel, convert and design build of thier restaurants. I did all specifying of FF&E, purchasing all materials with vendors and supervising installations on site and designing items from carpet, light fixtures, seating, focal point displays, bars, introducing new materials to our projects and anything design related. My territory had 58 restaurants under my supervision as a project manager.Several years later the economy started to slow, that lead to specializing in kitchen & bath design for residential. I became NKBA certified and was Kitchen & Bath Mngr. at a Home Depot. My store was in a high end area and my projects were waterfront homes. I had designers that worked under my supervision and I had the larger projects from the store. I Designed and sold the projects and supervised their installations. A few years later I moved to Las Vegas to work for an architectual firm that specialized in hotels and casinos. We designed large spaces and had unlimited budgets for over the top designs. I then married and moved back to CA where my husband and I opened Sterling Design Contruction Inc. we worked with a custom cabinet shop. I met with clients who described their millwork needs, then I designed, sold and supervised installations of these projects. One thing led to another and were subcontracting all trades and we became a general contractor. Our main customer was USC, we were one of their general contractors who provided contracting services for their contruction department. The projects were for all their on campus and off campus properties. Eight years later the marlket started to slow, so we moved to NC to do high end residential homes from inception to completion. We completed one waterfront house and the realestate market died. So now I am looking for a part time job in design that is 4 days a week (Fridays off) and hours from 8am to 2pm (I have to pick up my kids from school) inHuntersville.
